OUR METHODOLOGY
Teaching staff of A door to Italy follows the communicative method, which promotes fast learning. It favours oral communication but doesn't disregard written aspects.
The communicative method focuses on the four language abilities:
 
1. listening
2. speaking
3. reading
4. writing

Italian language classes at our school are aimed at developing the student's general language competence and the ability to communicate in an international environment and in everyday situations, as well as at work and in social life situations.
Throughout the course, learners expand their vocabulary repertoire and learn new grammatical structures which they practice in the context.
They improve then their ability to communicate, read and write fluently and correctly.
All classes are held in Italian only: beginner students, who don't have any knowledge of Italian language, gradually learn it without translating from their own mother language.
The communicative method allows student to express themeselves in Italian from the very first moment: the use of techniques like role-play and real-life situations simulated in class, enable our students to work in an entertaining and always relaxing atmosphere, essential requirements for expressing themselves in a spontaneous way.
 
The school takes particular care in listening exercises, because understanding is the first goal to pursue in order to speak: targeted exercises can easily lead towards a better pronounciation and intonation. 
All students wish to speak in a short time, and we give hundreds of chances to do it: in pairs, in groups and with the teacher.
Our reading exercises are always up to date and interesting, carefully selected and prepared by experienced teachers.  

OUR TEACHERS
All our teachers are young, natives, highly qualified and with wide experience in teaching Italian to foreigners. They regularly follow practical training and refresher courses.
Apart from being able to share their knowledge and practical skills, they create a friendly atmosphere in a group, which contributes to a fast and efficient acquisition of the Italian language.
Their goal is to guide students in the learning of the language, developing the communicative abilities, though with care and consideration of grammatical structures. 
At A Door to Italy the student finds the necessary help and assistance to face all kind of problems related to the study of the Italian language.
 
TEACHING MATERIALS
The school provides students with all books and teaching materials. Most of it is developed by our teachers and is continuously updated.
The didactic material is rich and various.
The official book is created by our well-experienced Director of Studies: each level has its own book, which is supplied at the beginning of the course.
All addictional didactic material is drawn from newspapers, magazines, multimedia material and videos, constantly updated in order to completely satisfy, and yet continuously sharpen our classes needs.
After many years, we know that each class has its own features and demands, making the "personalized teaching" the best possible choice.

PLACEMENT TEST
All students, with the exception of those who have no previous knowledge of Italian language, take a written and oral test before the start of the course. This helps us to place them in an appropriate group.
At any point during their stay the students can discuss their progress with their teachers or the Director of Studies. If their learning speed allows it, they can move into a higher level group during the course.
This careful examination allows teachers to form homogeneous and balanced classes.
Our classes are always multilingual and our staff promote the integration of each new member, encouraging him to actively participate in the lessons. 
The small number allows and favours communication and expression between students and teachers. The linguistic variety inside groups doesn't represent an obstacle, but an enhancement to the class homogeneity: the teacher, using the communicative method, succeeds in creating a good relationship with every student.
 
CERTIFICATES
At the end of any course, with a minimum frequency of 80% of the lessons, the school gives a certificate of attendance.
The students are given a course certificate specifying their level of Italian and number of hours of attendance.
